The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by President Brea Bryant. Other Commissioners present at roll call were Belinda Ordaz, Andrea Tate, Daisy Hurtado, Jessica Ordaz, Taylor Brinkman, Darcy Garrity, Nicole Forde, Crystal Hammers, and Cynthia Fredenberg. Others present included Poldina Scherff, Recreational Services Manager; Kiko Ceja, Adult Advisor; Ernie Rodriguez, Adult Advisor; and Tom Burt, Recreational Services Supervisor. Visitors includes: Mayor Brian Swisher, and Andy Parson, LHS Principal.

AGENDA REVIEW: No changes to agenda.

CITIZEN COMMENTS: There were no citizens present at the meeting.


Item No. 1 Approval of minutes of Regular Meeting on September 3, 2003, and Special Meeting on September 17, 2003.
President Brea Bryant, to approve the minutes of the September 3, 2003 and September 19, 2003 meetings. Commissioner Daisy Hurtado seconded the motion and the motion carried.

Item No. 2 Discussion of the Job Resource PowerPoint presentation, flyer and website. (All Youth Commissioners)
The Commissioners edited the Youth Commission flyer. They added suggestions and the flyer was approved by all. Move to allocate Youth Commission money to pay for printing of flyer. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Daisy Hurtado and motion carried unanimously.

All Commissioners discussed the PowerPoint presentation and several suggestions were mentioned of ideas to improve overall content. Revisions were made and presentation was approved.

Item No. 3 Discussion of Chamber of Commerce meeting on November 11, 2003 (P. Scherff)
The Youth Commission will show the presentation to the Chamber of Commerce on November 11, 2003. Liberty High School Principal, Andy Parson, asked if LHS could establish a link to the Youth Commission Website. Ms. Scherff suggested that the Youth Commission look into this option.

Item No. 4 Update on the Liberty High Homecoming Parade (P. Scherff).
Homecoming Parade will be on Friday, October 24, 2003. The parade begins @ 6:00pm. Several Commissioners will be on hand to support the Youth Commission. Brea Bryant, Belinda Ordaz, Crystal Hammers, Cynthia Fredenberg, and Taylor Brinkman. Ms. Scherff asked that the Commissioners wear their shirts in the parade.

Item No. 5 Discussion of Downtown Halloween on October 25, 2003.
Ms. Scherff asked if Commissioners would be interested in helping out with the City of Brentwood and Youth Commission booth. Commissioners would hand out candy to the children. Brea Bryant and Jessica Ordaz volunteered to assist. Ms. Scherff moved that $500 be allocated to the purchase of candy for Hometown Halloween. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Crystal Hammers and motion carried unanimously.

Item No. 6 Discussion of Franks with Frankenstein on October 25, 2003.
Tom Burt, Recreation Services Supervisor, discussed the special event. An explanation was given of possible roles Commissioners could help with. Commissioners Brea Bryant and Crystal Hammers agreed to participate. The event takes place on Saturday, October 25, 2003 from 11:30 – 1:00pm at the Brentwood Community Center.

Item No. 7 Discussion of Holiday Parade on November 29, 2003.
Ms. Scherff opened discussion with an overview of the event. Ms. Scherff presented the parade application and moved to submit the application to reserve a spot in the parade. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Megan DeGuerre and motion carried unanimously. The Holiday Parade takes place from 2:00 – 5:00pm on November 29, 2003. Commissioners Crystal Hammers, Cynthia Fredenberg, Taylor Brinkman, and Brea Bryant, volunteered to assist with the event.

CITIZEN COMMENTS: Mayor Brian Swisher commented on how organized and professional the meeting was. He also stated how important the Youth Commission is to the community and thanked the Commissioners for their hard work. 

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS/INFORMATIONAL REPORTS: Ernie Rodriguez also commented on how well the group worked together and as a business person, spoke of how important the Youth Commission is to the community.
