CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:11 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Alfredo Garcia, Valerie Smith, Johnny Staton, Steve Smith, Claudette Naturel-Staton, Gari Laranang, Council Member Brandon Richey, and Staff Liaisons Barbie Gary and Michele Keady.
PRESENTATIONS: Michele Keady, Community Service Officer for the Brentwood Police Department gave a presentation on the Neighborhood Watch Program. She explained that any neighborhood interested in starting a Neighborhood Watch in their area can contact her to set up a meeting to talk with the neighbors and begin the program. Additionally, she handed out a packet with suggestions on how to spot crime in your neighborhood, how to contact the Police Department, and a checklist for noting observations of suspicious behavior.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1. Approve regular meeting minutes of December 10, 2008. Motion to approve the minutes made by Gari Laranang and seconded by Steve Smith. Approved 5-0.

SCHEDULED MATTERS
2. ACTION ITEM: Selection of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Tresurer for 2009. A ballot vote was taken for each position and the following members were selected: Claudette Naturel-
Staton, Chair; Alfredo Garcia, Vice Chair; Jeff Altman, Secretary; Steve Smith, Treasurer; and Johnny Staton, Public Relations. Members will serve in these board positions for the remainder of 2009.

3. DISCUSSION ITEM: Discussion regarding the events and programs that BANC offers or participates in and if they support BANC’s mission and goals. Members discussed how various events they have been involved with in the past relate to their mission statement and if they should pursue adding any new events to better meet these goals. After much discussion, the group concluded that they would like to research offering a community-wide clean up day and an event for seniors, such as a concert at a senior location. This item will be brought back to the February BANC meeting for further discussion, selecting a subcommittee to work on the details, and determine funding needs.

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS, SUBCOMMITTEES AND LIAISONS: Council Member Brandon Richey updated the group on various issues that had been up for discussion and/or vote at the January 13th Council Meeting. He shared that the City has been forced to make additional reductions to the current fiscal budget, including not filling three vacant Parks and Recreation Department staff positions and eliminating several recreation programs and events.
