Regular Meeting

CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Johnny Staton, Steve Smith, Claudette Naturel-Staton, Karen Nunez, Alfredo Garcia, Tammy Lynn Misenheimer, Cecilia Skuza were present. Staff Liaisons Barbie Gary and Michele Keady and Council Member Brandon were also present. Member Cheryl Nickerson was absent.

PRESENTATIONS: Rick Lemyre of the Brentwood Press spoke about the Brentwood Press and how he would be able to assist BANC in advertising.

CITIZEN COMMENT: None

CONSENT CALENDAR
1. Approve meeting minutes of July 14, 2010. Motion to approve the minutes made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Steve Smith. Motion approved 8-0.

SCHEDULED MATTERS
2. DISCUSSION ITEM: Review National Night Out event held August 3, 2010. Staff Liaison Michele Keady led a discussion regarding National Night Out which was a great success, with eighteen neighborhoods participating. Two groups of BANC members, City Council members and Police staff visited the participating neighborhoods and presented one neighborhood with the most spirit as the winner of National Night Out. It was suggested that criteria for selecting a winner should be determined for next year’s event. The BANC committee will take action on this item prior to National Night Out in 2011.

3. ACTION ITEM: Approve participation in the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce’s Hometown Halloween event on Saturday, October 23, 2010 and approve the application fee of $30 for a booth at the event. After discussion it was moved by Karen Nunez and seconded by Rick Fuller to participate in the event and expend the $30 for a booth. Motion approved 8-0.

4. ACTION ITEM: Discussion regarding the annual Christmas Tree Lighting event and assignment of tasks to committee members. A discussion was led by Staff Liaison Barbie Gary regarding the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The location has been defined at the Brentwood Senior Activity Center and it was suggested that a meeting be held at the Senior Center in September to discuss location. An action item was assigned to all committee members to bring a wish list to the September meeting regarding the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS, SUBCOMMITTEES AND
LIAISONS: Karen Nunez informed the committee regarding the information she had received about participation at the Brentwood Farmers Market. A discussion followed and Karen Nunez was assigned the action item of sending out an e-mail soliciting feedback regarding participation. Brandon Richey announced that he will not be running for re-election and discussed the objection of the Brentwood City Council to a parole office in Brentwood, the economic development in the City and Post-Measure F American Avenue.

STAFF COMMENTS: The Marsh Creek Clean-Up will be held on September 25. The Brentwood Play Day Event will be held on September 6 at Veterans Park. Volunteers for the event will be solicited by e-mail from Barbie Gary. Michele Keady noted that copper thefts in Brentwood so far this calendar year amounted to $100,000 and that there has been an influx of suicides.
