City of Brentwood BANC Committee Meeting notes from 4/25/2007

1. Meeting Called to Order: 6:05 p.m.

Members in attendance:
Tammy Lynn Misenheimer, Alfredo Garcia, Johnny Staton, , Steve Smith, John Breneman, Claudette Naturel – Staton, Councilmen Brandon Richey, Chuck Handwork, Cassandra Youngblood, Valerie Smith, Valerie Austin, Perry Chicane, Jeff Marchetti, Deborah Diaz, Lt. Brian Strock.

Absent:
Victoria Gits, William Iles, Sheilah Cunningham, Craig Bronzan

2. Approval of the March 28, 2007 minutes.

3. Discussion regarding BANC’s involvement in the Chamber of Commerce’s CornFest event: Staff will look into options of having information at the City information booth or having BANC members available to give out BANC-related information.

4. Discussion regarding methods to better market BANC to the Brentwood Community:
1. Tammy Lynn Misenheimer suggest seeing if more area businesses would be interested in donating gifts to for the home of the month winners.
2. Claudette Naturel-Staton agreed to speak with the Brentwood Chamber about sending flyers out in their monthly news letter.
3. BANC members suggested the Brentwood Chamber Events; CornFest, Wine Festival and Farmers Market.
4. At the Christmas Tree Lightening Ceremony have the BANC banner.
5. Make BANC brochures available, including mission statement.
6. BANC committee to conduct or participate in community meetings to inform the public. Suggested places like the Rose Garden or other organizations meetings.

5. Discussion about changing the meeting date of BANC meetings in order to use the Council Chambers: Suggestion was made to change the BANC meeting date from the fourth Wednesday of the month to the third Wednesday of the month so the Council Chambers can be utilized. Staff will follow up with available dates to use Council Chambers.

6. City Council Update: Report from Council Member Brandon Richey on some of the biggest issues presented to City Council this week:
1. Building the new Civic Center
2. Discussion between the school district and city council regarding refurnishing the bus barn and Liberty High School swimming pool.
3. East Contra Costa County Fire District wants to re-employ a third firefighter to the City of Knightsen.
4. CDF presentation regarding Affordable Housing Program

7. Staff Update: Lt. Brian Strock –Police Department
1. The CERT training class that was scheduled for April/May has been cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Lt. Strock advised a new date would be set soon and encouraged BANC members to talk about CERT in their neighborhoods and elicit participation.
2. He mentioned the Police department is aware of and is cracking down on speed violations in various parts of the city and officers are patrolling the parks to stop the vandalism problems.
3. Please change to: Lt. Strock clarified that park curfew is dusk to dawn unless posted otherwise at the park.

8. Good of the Order: Brief Committee concerns
1. Teenagers loitering in the park after dark and the need for curfew hour enforcements.
2. Vandalism at Veteran Park and the need for more police visibility.
3. Discussion about BANC members sponsoring a community clean–up day to help promote public awareness of BANC.
4. Claudette Naturel-Staton suggested placing “No Littering” fine signs around the city to help keep our city clean.
5. Discussion of BANC working with the police department to co-create an event, possibly related to CERT.
6. BANC shirt vendor has been chosen and orders were finalized.

9. Adjournment: Meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
BANC members presented the April and May Home of the Month awards following the meeting.
