Minutes for May 9, 2012
Regular Meeting

CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:09 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Rick Fuller, Shelly McHugh, Claudette Naturel-Staton, Karen Nunez, Silky Sahnan, Stephen Smith. Staff Liaisons Barbie Gary and Michele Keady were present. Absent the meeting were Council Member Robert Brockman and members JoAnn Klement, Arthur Koski, Cheryl Nickerson, and Johnny Staton.
PRESENTATIONS: Alex Greenwood from the City’s Community Development Department shared about the City’s economic development strategy for the City, which included: Business Retention/Job Growth, Marketing, Key Stakeholder Relationships, Businessinbrentwood.com, Industry Concentration, Size and Projected Growth Rate. He noted that a long-term goal for the City would be to have one job per household located in Brentwood. The committee had time to ask several questions of Alex.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1. Approve regular meeting minutes of May 9, 2012. Motion to approve minutes made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Steve Smith. Motion approved 6-0.

SCHEDULED MATTERS

2. ACTION ITEM: Nominate and elect a new Secretary to the committee. Member JoAnn Klement was nominated by Karen Nunez and Shelly McHugh offered to assist JoAnn Klement when absent. Motion made by Karen Nunez and seconded by Rick Fuller. Motion approved 6-0.

3. DISCUSSION ITEM: Discuss and approve ways to market BANC to the community. Silky Sahnan updated the committee on progress she had made in the last month, including a verbal commitment from 110 Magazine to run an article on BANC if provided by the committee. Claudette Naturel-Staton updated the group (in Johnny Staton’s absence) on BANC history that that was compiled by talking to various sources, including the City Clerk and Parks and Recreation Director Craig Bronzan. She offered to forward the emails she received so that the entire committee could review how BANC was started and what its original goals were.

4. ACTION ITEM: Approve budget of $450.00 to purchase gift baskets for the monthly Home of the Month Winner and National Night Out winning neighborhood. After a brief discussion, members agreed on the purchase of gift baskets for winners. Motion made to approve the $450.00 to purchase gift baskets made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Steve Smith. Motion approved 6-0.

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS, SUBCOMMITTEES AND LIAISONS: Staff Liaison Michele Keady reported that just hours prior to the BANC meeting the Brentwood Police Department made an arrest of an un-named individual with a $1 million warrant with a connection to Brentwood and an extensive criminal history.
Members also discussed the number of burglaries taking place in Brentwood neighborhoods between
9 A.M. and 2 P.M. Staff Liaison Keady reminded members that citizens can call the non-emergency police department number if they see suspicious behavior.

REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: Continued discussion and update on marketing BANC.

ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m. Motion made by Karen Nunez and seconded by Rick Fuller. Motion approved 6 - 0.
