SCHEDULED MATTERS

1. ACTION ITEM: Nominate and elect a new Secretary to the committee. Motion to table this item to the May meeting made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Arthur Koski. Motion approved
7-0.

2. ACTION ITEM: Discuss and approve ways to market BANC to the community. Silky Sahnan and Johnny Staton led a discussion about ways the committee could further market BANC to the community to not only expose them to who BANC is and the group’s functions, but also encourage more membership. Ideas to promote BANC included developing articles for local publications such as 110 Magazine, The Brentwood Press and Contra Costa Times focusing on BANC’s history, goals and feature articles like gardening tips, how to meet your neighbors and upcoming community events. Staff Liaison Keady suggested that members continue to volunteer at community events such as Marsh Creek Clean-Up, high school grad nights, and tree lighting to further expose BANC. Developing a brochure about BANC to be distributed at events such as Hometown Halloween, Farmer’s Market and the tree lighting was also suggested. Motion to have members begin working on the marketing campaign via an article made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Silky Sahnan. Motion approved 7-0.

3. ACTION ITEM: Discuss BANC’s interest in participating in the 2012 National Night Out event and if interested, select a subcommittee to work with Staff Liaison Keady on planning the event. Staff Liaison Keady updated members on the event, which will take place in early August. Members would split up into small groups and accompany city council members and Police Department staff as they visit the various participating neighborhoods. All members in attendance expressed an interest in participating in this year’s event and will work with Staff Liaison Keady to advertise the event and be in attendance at the event. Motion to approve participation in the 2012 National Night Out event and various members will work with Staff Liaison to plan the event. Motion made by Rick Full and seconded by Silky Sahnan.
