CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:12 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Johnny Staton, Claudette Naturel-Staton, Karen Nunez, Rick Fuller and Alfredo Garcia were present. Member Steve Smith arrived at 6:27 p.m. Staff Liaisons Barbie Gary and Michele Keady were present. Members Cecilia Skuza, Cheryl Nickerson, Angela Waters, Tammy Lynn Misenheimer and Arthur Koski were absent. City Council representative, Robert Brockman, was absent.

PRESENTATIONS: Laura Ceja, Place of Learning Coordinator and staff of the Police Activities League Mentor Program, shared about each program. The Place of Learning provides free tutoring to children and adults in Brentwood and is always seeking additional volunteers to commit to tutoring once a week at their facility. She noted that the Police Activities League is looking for adults to mentor 5th-8th graders in Brentwood for an hour once a week. Contact information and flyers were passed out so BANC members could share this valuable information with others in the community who might benefit from the programs or be interested in volunteering.

CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. Approve regular meeting minutes of January 12, 2011. Motion to approve the minutes made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Karen Nunez. Motion approved 6-0.

SCHEDULED MATTERS
2. ACTION ITEM: Discuss BANC’s interest in participating in the 2011 National Night Out event and if interested, select a subcommittee to work with Staff Liaison Keady on planning the event. Members that participated in the event last year recommended that the committee participate again this year as the event was a big success and a great way for the committee to share with various neighborhood groups about BANC’s existence, purpose and goals. Staff Liaison Keady noted that the event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2, 2011 and that she will be coordinating the event for the Police Department. BANC’s role would be assisting with visiting all the neighborhoods participating in the event, determining criteria for judging and selecting the winning neighborhood, and possibly obtaining the prize for the winning neighborhood. Members present indicated they were interested in participating again this year and would like to discuss further at the May BANC meeting when more members were present. A motion and vote was not taken due to a lack of quorum.

STAFF COMMENTS: Staff Liaison Gary mentioned an opportunity for BANC members to assist the Parks and Recreation Department with a play day event scheduled for July 2011. She will present more details at the May meeting.
