Minutes for June 8, 2011
Regular Meeting

CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:08 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Alfredo Garcia, Johnny Staton, Claudette Naturel-Staton, Cecilia Skuza, Cheryl Nickerson, Rick Fuller, and Tammy Lynn Misenheimer were present. Staff Liaisons Barbie Gary and Michele Keady were also present. Absent from the meeting were Arthur Koski, Steve Smith, Karen Nunez and Council member Bob Brockman.

PRESENTATIONS: Nola Woods from the Contra Costa Mosquito & Vector Control District gave a presentation about the services the district provides, educated the committee on mosquitoes and other vectors local to the Brentwood area and informed them how to report problems to the District.

CITIZEN COMMENT: None

CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. Approve regular meeting minutes of May 11, 2011. Motion to approve the minutes made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Cheryl Nickerson. Motion approved 6-0.

SCHEDULED MATTERS
2. DISCUSSION ITEM: Discuss the annual National Night Out event scheduled for August 2, 2011. BANC members discussed seeking donations from local businesses to include in a gift basket for neighborhoods meeting criteria set by BANC members. Staff Liaison Keady will provide a donation letter that members can use to solicit for donations. As many members as possible are needed to volunteer with visiting all the neighborhoods participating in the event.

3. DISCUSSION ITEM: Discuss BANC’s interest in participating in the Parks and Recreation Department’s Play Day on Friday, July 8, 2011 at Heron Park. BANC members were encouraged to come to the event to meet any participants and expose them to BANC’s mission and involvement in the community. Members attending will assist with kite crafts, kite flying and contest.

4. ACTION ITEM: Discuss the Home of the Month Program and approve any changes or improvements to the program. Members were in agreement that the award for the monthly home winner should be improved and decided to purchase additional gift items from local businesses to include in the gift basket with the mugs that are already distributed. Rick Fuller offered to visit Gursky Ranch for ideas and work with staff to purchase additional items.
