Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee Minutes for May 12, 2010 Special Meeting CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:07 p.m. ROLL CALL: Committee members Karen Nunez, Rick Fuller, Claudette Natural-Staton, Stephen Smith, and Johnny Staton were in attendance. Staff Liaison Barbie Gary was present. Members Alfredo Garcia, Tammy Lynn Misenheimer, Cheryl Nickerson and Cecilia Skuza, Council Member Brandon Richey and Staff Liaison Michele Keady were absent. PRESENTATIONS: Deborah Willis from Fremont Bank was ill and not able to present at the meeting. ANNOUNCEMENTS: None CITIZEN COMMENT: Iris Obregon, Field Representative for Assemblymember, Joan Buchanan, visited BANC to share some literature. CONSENT CALENDAR SCHEDULED MATTERS 3. ACTION ITEM: Select a subcommittee to plan the annual Christmas tree lighting event and discuss location options for the event. The committee discussed their interest in planning the annual lighting event and suggested locations at Veteran’s Park, the Brentwood Senior Activity Center, and the corner of Balfour and Griffith. Assuming lighting and installation issues can be resolved, the group agreed that the corner of Griffith and Balfour would be the ideal location for the tree while City Park is under construction. A subcommittee consisting of Johnny Staton, Claudette Natural-Staton and Steve Smith was formed to start the planning process. Motion to approve the subcommittee made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Karen Nunez. Motion approved 5-0. 4. DISCUSSION ITEM: Discuss alternative meeting sites and potential tours or presenters for future BANC meetings in lieu of participating in the annual City tour. The committee added to the list of possible presenters and tours that was generated at a previous meeting to include presentations from the Brentwood Press, City staff from the Finance and Parks and Recreation Departments, the John Marsh house and tours of the Brentwood Police Department and Trilogy at the Vineyards housing development. 5. DISCUSSION ITEM: Tour of the Brentwood Senior Activity Center. Staff Liaison Gary led the committee on a tour of the Brentwood Senior Activity Center, highlighting the many uses and features of the facility. INFORMATIONAL REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS, SUBCOMMITTEES AND LIAISONS: Committee member Steve Smith updated the committee on recent discussion at City Council meetings regarding the proposed fourth high school and a commitment to a funding plan.
