BANC Minutes - April 14, 2010
Brentwood Advisory Neighborhood Committee
Minutes for April 14, 2010
Regular Meeting

CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Committee members Karen Nunez, Rick Fuller, Claudette Natural-Staton, Stephen Smith, Alfredo Garcia and Cheryl Nickerson were in attendance. Staff Liaisons Michele Keady and Barbie Gary were also in attendance. Council Member Brandon Richey was present. Members Tammy Lynn Misenheimer, Johnny Staton and Cecilia Skuza were absent.

PRESENTATIONS: Michele Keady, Brentwood Police Department, presented the CERT program to BANC members. Information was given on how to prepare for emergencies such as earthquakes and Michele also informed the group on upcoming CERT trainings that are free to Brentwood residents.

1. Approve regular meeting minutes of March 10, 2010. Motion to approve the minutes made by Cheryl Nickerson and seconded by Rick Fuller. Approved 6-0.

2. DISCUSSION ITEM: Report from members who attended the City Council Park Ad Hoc Committee meetings in March 2010. The committee learned that a majority of the discussion involved the proposed Summerset Park, as many Summerset residents attended the meetings to voice their interest in having the park installed. Other suggestions for parks included a BMX bike course, sports fields and lawn bowling.

3. DISCUSSION ITEM: Review and add event dates to BANC’s Master Calendar. The Home of the Month information was added and Staff Liaison Gary noted that the Christmas tree, due to the construction in City Park, would need to find a new location for 2010. Members requested that a discussion regarding the tree be added to the May BANC agenda.

4. DISCUSSION ITEM: Discuss the Committee’s interest in planning a city tour for members or alternative ideas. Due to the expense of renting a school bus and meals, the committee suggested taking local tours or meeting at different sites around the City, such as the Senior Center, Police Department, John Marsh House, Water Treatment Plant, Hannah Nicole Winery, and Trilogy at the Vineyards housing development. Members also noted that they would like to continue with inviting presenters, such as the Brentwood Agricultural Land Trust, to meetings.

Member Johnny Staton arrived at 7:15pm

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS, SUBCOMMITTEES AND LIAISONS: Brandon Richey noted that Measure F/Urban Limit Line will be on the ballot in June. He updated the committee on Council’s decision to restrict the right of residents to own chickens to those who live on 20,000 square foot lots. Council member Richey mentioned that several projects in Brentwood continue to move forward, including Brentwood Boulevard, Cortona Ranch, Garin Parkway and approval for a new transfer station.

STAFF COMMENTS: Staff Liaison Gary informed the committee about an opportunity called National Neighborhood Day and the committee asked to discuss it further at the May meeting. Staff Liaison Keady noted that the Police Department will be offering a “Citizen’s Academy”, an 8-week training program beginning May 5, 2010.
