Minutes for November 4, 2009
Special Meeting

CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:04 p.m.

ROLL CALL: Committee members Alfredo Garcia, Cecilia Skuza, Cheryl Nickerson, Claudette Naturel-Staton, Karen Nunez, Rick Fuller, and Stephen Smith were all in attendance. Council member Brandon Richey and Staff Liaisons, Michele Keady and Barbie Gary will also in attendance.

PRESENTATIONS: None

ANNOUNCEMENTS: None

CITIZEN COMMENT: Claudette Natural-Staton shared about the 2nd Annual Food Basket Drive on December 18, 2009 for the International Orphan Relief Foundation.

CONSENT CALENDAR
1. Approve regular meeting minutes of October 14, 2009. Motion to approve the minutes made by Rick Fuller and seconded by Karen Nunez. Approved 7-0.

SCHEDULED MATTERS
2. ACTION ITEM: Determine details related to offering the annual Home of the Season contest for December Home of the Month award and appoint a subcommittee to select the home. A motion to approve a subcommittee made up of Rick Fuller, Cheryl Nickerson and Karen Nunez, was made by Claudette Natural-Staton and seconded by Karen Nunez. Motion approved 7-0. Staff will submit a press release to the local newspapers regarding the Home of the Season contest and update the BANC website with the online nomination form. Nominations will be taking through Sunday, December 13, 2009, and the award will be presentation on Thursday, December 17, 2009.

3. DISCUSSION ITEM: Update from the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony subcomitteee and discuss member responsibilities for the event on November 21, 2009. Claudette Natural-Staton, Johnny Staton, and Staff Liaison Barbie Gay met with the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce and the Camber is excited to be working with BANC. Cheryl Nickerson, Karen Nunez, Cecilia Skuza, Johnny Staton, and Claudette Natural-Staton volunteered to decorate the flat bed that would be used for announcements.

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS, SUBCOMMITTEES AND LIAISONS: Council member Richey updated the group on the Civic Center project, including the fact that the final vote of approval for the Civic Center was 3-2 vote. He also mentioned that the City Council voted 4-1 to form a government-style Fire Board.

STAFF COMMENTS: Staff Liaision Gary suggested that BANC consider cancelling the December 2009 and February 2010 BANC meetings due to lack of agenda items and the members agreed. The next meeting will be January 13, 2010.

REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: Update from the Christmas Tree Lighting subcommittee regarding the event.
