Minutes for September 9, 2009
CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 6:14 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Cecilia Skuza, Cheryl Nickerson, Claudette Naturel-Staton, Johnny Staton, Rick Fuller, Stephen Smith
CITIZEN COMMENT: None
1. Approve regular meeting minutes of August 12, 2009. Motion to approve the minutes made by Steve Smith and seconded by Rick Fuller. Approved 6-0.
2. DISCUSSION ITEM: Update from the City Wide Clean-Up Day subcommittee. City-Wide Clean-Up will be rolled into Marsh Creek’s September 19th 2009 Clean-Up day. Diane Burgis of the Friends of Marsh Creek asked BANC for volunteers. Ms. Burgis indicated that she will need sign-in station volunteers and field supervisors. Rick, Steve, Cheryl, and Cecilia volunteered to help FOMCW.
3. DISCUSSION ITEM: Update on annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Chairman for the Christmas Tree Lighting Committee, Johnny Staton, opened the discussion by commenting on what improvements he would like to address for this year’s event. A higher stage and a better quality of sound system are desired for the 2009 ceremony. The availability of facilities (ie. changing rooms, bathrooms) and space needed for the ceremony were discussed. The financial report from last year event was reviewed and a need for donations and volunteers was addressed.
Brandon Richey: Club O was voted down by 4-1 by the Brentwood City Council. Mr. Richey stated that passions from the community ran high on this issue.
Mr. Richey stated that Brentwood resident UC Berkeley Officer Allison (Ally) Jacobs was given a key to the City for her role in breaking the 18-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard kidnapping case.
Mr. Richey also stated that the Civic Center bids came in approximately 33% lower than expected.
Michele Keady: Community Officer Keady commented on recent criminal activity in the community. The Brentwood Police Department had been working with the Planning Commission in regards to gathering crime stat information in an effort to address the potential impact of Club O in the city and to police services. This information as well as additional data was provided during the City Council meeting on this topic.
Steve Smith: Steve Smith updated BANC on the Highway 4 Bypass. Steve stated the monies are still being sought to widen two passing segments.
