ARTS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
February 20 2013 AT 7:00 P.M.
COUNCIL CHAMBERS
150 CITY PARK WAY
BRENTWOOD, CA 94513

CALL TO ORDER: Chair Gaughan called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL:
Present were Chair Jack Gaughan, Vice Chair Tim Biglow and Commissioner Leslie Bemel and Danny Senn. Commissioner Juan Castillo was excused. Staff members present were Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager and Elaine McGurk, Administrative Assistant II.

PRESENTATION: PRESENTATION(S)
Vice Mayor Bryant to swear in newly appointed Arts Commissioners, Leslie Bemel and Tim Biglow.

CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. Approve minutes of regular meeting of October 17, 2012

 Item tabled until the next meeting.

2. Approve minutes of regular meeting of January 16, 2013

 Item tabled until the next meeting.

SCHEDULED MATTERS:
3. DISCUSSION ITEM: Continued discussion regarding public art project of silhouettes for the downtown. (P. Scherff)

Chair Jack Gaughan presented a PowerPoint slideshow of various sample of a silhouette art work. He will present a more descriptive slideshow at the next meeting.

4. ACTION ITEM: Select artists to be invited to be interviewed at the next Arts Commission meeting. (P. Scherff)

It was decided that the Commission would like to select 6 artists and interview them at the next meeting.

The six included:
1. Bruce Chaban
2. Susan Dannenfelser and Kirk Beck – Dannenbeck Studios
3. Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector
4. Brian Keith
5. Scott Runion – Urban Sculpture
6. Patricia Vader and Joe Bologna

 

 

 

 Motion to approve the six selected artists for an interview at the next Arts Commission meeting.

5. ACTION ITEM: Election of Vice Chair. (P. Scherff)

Chair Gaughan nominated Tim Biglow for Vice Chair. Commission Biglow accepted.

 Motion to approve Commissioner Tim Biglow as Vice Chair for 2013.

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: NONE

STAFF COMMENTS:
Poldina Scherff: The Liberty High School Arts and Humanities Academy has begun their work of the utility box public art project throughout town. The East Contra Costa Historical Society will host a reception with the local farmers in town. This is open to the public.
