ARTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES MARCH 16, 2011 AT 7:00 P.M. COUNCIL CHAMBERS 101 B SAND CREEK ROAD BRENTWOOD, CA 94513 CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Spencer called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. ROLL CALL: CITIZEN COMMENTS: NONE CONSENT CALENDAR: All items under the Consent Calendar have been tabled until next meeting in April. SCHEDULED MATTERS: Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager, said the “Call for Submission”, and Liability Waiver are both in the City Attorney’s for review. The Commission can move forward to accept and recommend to City Council this item pending the approval from the City Attorney. Poldina Scherff hopes to submit this item to the City Council for approval in April and suggested that the Commissioners be in attendance at the April meeting. Motion to Accept and approve the poetry anthology publication by Poet Laureate Kati Short and forward to City Council for approval. 5. DISCUSSION ITEM: Discuss and develop a plan for possible new locations for City public art. (P. Scherff) Commissioner Koncher inquired about the corner of Balfour Road and Highway 4 Bypass. Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager, gave a brief update on the intersection of Balfour Road and Highway 4 Bypass. There will be four lanes (2 lanes on each side) built therefore there may be a small vacant piece of land that can be used for public art however it’s best to wait for the completion of the infrastructure. She recommended that the Commission continue to seek out various possible places for public art in town. Motion to table this item until next meeting in April. Item will be brought back at the next meeting for further discussion. COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: Commissioner Groseclose inquired about Katie Collins from Liberty High School and the grant she was working on for California Department of Education. Poldina Scherff said the grant was submitted in February and that City staff is will continue to support her in her efforts when necessary. STAFF COMMENTS: She said that the downtown remodeling is moving forward nicely. They will be pouring cement for the sidewalks soon but probably not in time for the Farmer’s Market opening day on April 2. REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: NONE ADJOURNMENT |
