ARTS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES SEPTEMBER 16, 2009 AT 7:00 P.M. CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS 734 THIRD STREET BRENTWOOD, CA 94513
CALL TO ORDER: Chairperson Wanda Groseclose called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. ROLL CALL: CITIZEN COMMENTS: NONE CONSENT CALENDAR: 1. Approve minutes of regular meeting of July 15, 2009. Motion to approve the minutes of July 15, 2009. 2. Approve minutes of regular meeting of August 19, 2009. Motion to approve the minutes of August 19, 2009. SCHEDULED MATTERS: Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager, mentioned the possibility of putting the project on hold until phase 3 of the Civic Center/Community Center is in progress. In Phase 3, the Library will also be expanded with the moving of the Engineering Department. The Commissioners are hoping this project will be opened up to the students of Brentwood but Poldina Scherff mentioned that the City if looking for professionals for this project.
Motion to put the project on hold until further notice. 4. ACTION ITEM: Discuss and recommend the alternatives on the vandalism of Veterans Park. (P. Scherff) Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manger, contacted a Brentwood Police Department officer to discuss methods in safeguarding the sculptors at Veterans Parks. Poldina Scherff said the allocation of $35,000 should be enough to protect the work and poetry art work out at Veterans Park. If more money is required, further approval would be needed. Poldina Scherff has also asked Roger Stromgren, Facilities/Landscape Manager, to attend this meeting to discuss the types of monitoring equipment that maybe available for purchase. Roger Stromgren introduced a company by the name of Q Star ( www.qstartech.com/ ) to the Commission. On their web site, products shown gave audible warnings to the perpetrator and it also takes a picture of the alleged violator. This unit can be interchanged to other locations by moving them to other posts. Once the posts are affixed to certain locations, the cameras are able to go to the various posts to capture different areas of the park. The surveillance items will need to go out for three quotes. Item selected will need the final approval of the City Council. Motion to recommend to City Council a not to exceed amount of $35,000 for the use of surveillance equipment for Veterans Park. OLD BUSINESS: NONE COMMISSIONER COMMENTS: STAFF COMMENTS: Commissioner Koncher mentioned that the owner of Vic Stewart will be opening up an upscale Art Gallery in the near future. Bill Weber will be assisting him in this endeavor. Chair Groseclose commented that she was quite impressed with the spotlight artist Brian Keith. REQUEST FOR FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: NONE ADJOURNMENT |
