SCHEDULED MATTERS:

2.       Action: Discuss, approve, and recommend the plaque material and/or art element for the poetry contest at Veteran’s Park. (S. Barry)

Sue Barry presented a slide show showing the present location of the rock for the missing mallard and City’s recommendation of change in his position when replaced.  She also showed the various locations that are being considered for the poetry artwork.  Discussion included possibility of using one area in the back of the park, by Brentwood Elementary, for a gathering place for all the poetry artwork in lieu of having it displayed with the individual animals.  Additional discussion included inviting Eric Powell to design artwork.  If he accepts, Commissioners would like to have Eric present drawings and a maquette of his proposal to a future Arts Commission Meeting.

Motion: To approve staff’s recommendation to contact Eric Powell, use granite, if possible, contain the artwork to the one area in the back with other areas as contingency.

Moved by: Chair Greg Ruiz, seconded by: Commissioner Karen Halbe.

Vote: Motion carried 4-0

Yes:  Groseclose, Halbe, Ruiz, Castillo

3.       Discussion: Continue to discuss purpose, goals, mission and vision of the Public Art Program. (C. Bronzan)

Craig Bronzan, Parks and Recreation Director, presented his staff report and opened the discussion regarding the individual points of the report.  He pointed out that if we were to collect art for display, that the Brentwood area has a talented pool of local artists.  He also stressed that continuity in the theme of the artwork would be important.

Motion: To continue the discussion of the purpose, goals, mission and vision of the Public Art Program at a future Arts Commission Meeting.

Moved by: Commissioner Wanda Groseclose, seconded by: Karen Halbe.

Vote: Motion carried 4-0
