CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Danny Senn called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL:
Present were, Chair Juan Castillo, Vice Chair Danny Senn and Commissioners Wanda Groseclose, Donna Spencer. Commissioner Barbie Koncher was excused. Staff members present were Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager and Elaine McGurk, Administrative Assistant II.

CITIZEN COMMENTS:
Cathy Barr, Brentwood Art Society, came before the Commission to request for funding for the following:
- Art Wine Jazz Festival $15,000.00
- Art Walk $ 1,500.00
- City Read $ 2,500.00
- Open Mic $ 1,500.00
- Student Art Show $ 1,000.00
- Broadway Under the Stars $ 3,500.00

Ms. Barr explained some of the obstacles they are facing because of the economy. They are lacking in sponsorship. They hope to do extra advertising via media and/or signs. They will have more live entertainment per the request of the community from the previous year. They are requesting that a new Memorandum of Understanding be approved between the City and the Brentwood Art Society.

3. ACTION ITEM: Recommend to City Council the Poet Laureate for the term August 1, 2010 – July 31, 2012. (P. Scherff)

Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager, informed the Commission that they will need to make a formal recommendation for the City Council to approve.

4. DISCUSSION ITEM: Update on the workshop to tour the City’s public art on August 6, 2010. (P. Scherff)

Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager, informed the Commission to proceed with this workshop a special meeting will need to be requested.

Commissioner Spencer said she would be out of town August 6, however she does not want the date to be changed on her account. Vice Chair Senn said any Mondays or Fridays are ideal for him. The Commission would prefer that they are all in attendance. The Commission discussed various dates and months. It was agreed that October 4, 2010 would be ideal.

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS:
Commissioner Spencer inquired about whether the Commission had funded the Art Wine and Jazz festival the year before. Poldina Scherff said yes, through an MOU. Poldina Scherff reminded the Commission that the Commission still has about $30,000 in their account. Vice Chair Senn commented that they would need to be very prudent with their money. He would like to see a break down of what was done in the previous years.

Commissioner Groseclose would like to hear more from the Brentwood Art Society in regards to the need for funding for Student Art Show.

Vice Chair Seen commented that he will probably drive around town to check out the Public Art in town.

STAFF COMMENTS:
Poldina Scherff, Recreation Manager, reminded the Commissioners about attending the City Council meeting on July 27, 2010 in recognition of the Diane Lando, Poet Laureate’s service. She also wanted to let the Commission know that professional photos will be taken at the next meeting by Donna Grill, City Webmaster.

1. Discussion Item: Brentwood Art Society and their request for funding. Review draft Memorandum of Understanding with the Brentwood Art Society
